Sketchfab 3D Scanning Challenge: Tree Stumps

Back to overview

We were stumped about what the theme of our next scanning challenge should be when it hit us like an acorn falling from an oak: tree stumps. They’re all over the place, and they’re a great subject for scanners of all skill levels. So get out there and see what you can capture.

Please note that there is a new rule, which is intended to level the playing field a bit: if you have won a contest in the past three months, you are ineligible to win this contest. You can, of course, still participate, and you will become eligible to win again after three months have passed.

UPDATE: Winner – Artificial Stump (PBR setup) by Vitalii Uspalenko

Dang. I realize this can’t be an entry since it’s an old model, but here’s this old tree stump that a local chainsaw sculptor transformed into a beautiful piece. @bartv found my model back in the day.

    Hi There,

This is my first time on sketchfab and I am trying to upload a model for the tree stump contest, but I face a limitation of 50MB max upload… is there a way around this ?
    Thanks !

    • Bart Veldhuizen says:

You may be able to decimate the model, or reduce texture map sizes by converting to a more compact file format. Other than that the obvious advice is to upgrade to PRO 🙂

That’s going to be tough to compare models that are limited to 50MB vs models that can be 500MB or more… ?

        Not that fair, isn’t it ? …

You should allows all entries for the contest to the same size limit… that would make sens… my 2 cents
        Best regards, Nicolas M

In our experience, 50MB will definitely be enough to deliver a high quality scan of a pumpkin.
