Meet the Masters: Gabriel de Laubier

Back to overview

The Sketchfab Masters are a group of super passionate and active community members. They are helping us run community activities, write tutorials and help out community members with support and feedback.

Today, meet Gabriel de Laubier (or Elbriga, as he’s known to us) – one of our leading Voxel artists and prolific writers.

Can you introduce yourself?

Hi! I’m Gabriel de Laubier, from France, I’m a freelance graphic designer specialised in 3D, and also a Voxel and 3D hobbyist!

I began learning 3D in high school with Google Sketch Up, which was a lot of fun! Then as I started to study graphic design I learnt how to use Blender, and it became my favourite tool, for modelling, rendering, animating scenes, making VFX or short films. I’m now working freelance on various types of projects, from traditional graphic design, to architectural visualisation, motion design or film.

What is your expertise?

I don’t have a real expertise in 3D professionally, as I often work as a 3D generalist in creative teams on projects that need simple VFX, 3D motion design or 3D renders. However as a hobbyist I really love to make NPR models and voxel art, to which I’ve become quite addicted! It’s a really fun way to put ideas together quickly when time is short, and an excellent minimalism exercise.

How do you use Sketchfab?

I discovered Sketchfab about a year ago, as a way to share some voxel characters I had made; but it revealed a huge potential and I’ve been using it ever since to share my models, or to showcase work for my clients.

What will you be working on for the Sketchfab Masters?

Besides writing some more Voxel and blender tutorials, I have the pleasure of managing Weekly Voxels with the help of @RAWRsoft, there are amazing contribution each week, you can check it out on Twitter or Facebook and participate!
