How long have you been with Sketchfab? How did you hear about it? What’s your role here?
I started to work at Sketchfab in January. I first heard about Sketchfab when they were being accelarated at Le Camping, a french startup accelerator. My role is to design the user interface and make sure the experience is as good as possible.
How did you get into 3D/design? What interests you most about 3D/design?
As a designer, I’ve always designed in 2D. 3D is kind of fascinating for me, it’s a whole different set of skills. In the past, I’ve designed things to look like 3D renders. It really helps people get what a product will look like at the end.
Do you do 3D modeling yourself? How would you get started?
I’m starting to learn how to model with Blender, Sketchup, Sculptris and Sculptfab of course. I’ve watched some tutorials on Youtube to get me started. Now I need to find an actual project to work on and get better.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to design and build things: apps, open source software, websites, connected objects. I like to solve problems. That’s what designers do, don’t they?
Tough question. “The Matrix” (the first one) is probably the closest to what could be my favorite movie, but I don’t think I have one. I like comedies, sci-fi and animation movies (I’m a fan of Ghibli productions).
What do you listen to while working?
I usually listen to urban and pop music. When I need to focus, I turn to J-Pop and K-Pop. When I’m looking for new music to listen to, I like to browse the playlists on Spotify. I love how they created playlists for any occasion you could think of.
Favorite model on Sketchfab?
My favorite one so far is “Warder” by Christopher Kontosic. I love the character pose and details in the hair. The artist made great use of normal maps. I have tons of other favorite models on my profile.
Where are you from? How old are you?
I’ve been living in Paris for a few years now, but I grew up in the east of France, near Metz. I’m 32 years old now.
What would you have for your last meal on earth?
I’m not a sugar person, so I would probably ask for potatoes and fried chicken for my last meal.
Craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Traveling to Japan! It’s like being in another dimension: it’s very similar and very different from western countries at the same time. I’ll probably go back there in a near future.
What are you most proud of regarding Sketchfab’s v2?
It’s a great start for more great things to come 🙂
If you haven’t already it’s time to check out Maurice’s latest infographic celebrating 100k 3D models uploaded to Sketchfab, it’s a great piece of design.
