The Sketchfab Masters are a group of super passionate and active community members. They are helping us run community activities, write tutorials and help out community members with support and feedback.
Today, meet Chaitanya Krishnan from India, who has been part of our community almost since the launch of Sketchfab.
Can you introduce yourself?
Prior to that I worked in various design studios. My stint at the last one was for around 7-8 years.. Where I did a mixed bag of things, from web design, game design to even stuff in RL like diy workshops with school kids. I still do the occasional workshop with kids, here’s a glimpse from the last one:
I work in both 2d and 3d.. My 3d work is typically with Blender or Sculptris.. Unless I go analog in which case I usually work with paper, cardboard or plastic bottles 🙂 These can be found over at my instructables page.
What is your expertise?
I was always good at making things with my hands, and this eventually led me to the arts.. So I studied communication design at Srishti School of Art Design and Technology, where the course I was doing was focused on graphic design, web and illustration. Throughout the course I kept dabbling with 2d animation(especially with Flash). It was only with my final project that I experimented with 3d using 3ds Max.. The results were promising, but I decided to stay with the 2d style is developed for the project.. A children’s pop-up book about robots.
Once I started working as a graphic designer, I used 3d mainly as part of illustrations or abstract 3d compositions. My second job was at a gaming company where I was essentially paid to learn 3d 🙂 the dream had come true.
After this I moved to a design studio where I got a lot more freedom to experiment, and started working with AR, and other technologies. This is also where I made the switch to Blender.. And discovered Sketchfab in its early days.
My professional portfolio can be viewed here.
How do you use Sketchfab?
I use it as a repository of all my 3d work.. Am very bad at curating, which is why you will find my account full of all kinds of random models.
Infact I actually use it for work a lot. Typically these models are in private mode until the client tells me it’s OK to share..
Here are some examples:
- An aircraft design project,
- A set of motorcycles for a commission,
- A few other commissions like 3d printer brands MakerBot, FormLabs, and Cube.
What will you be working on for the Sketchfab Masters?
Will be helping with the WIP section of the forum and in other threads. I try to create quick models with themes to do with current events.. In order to showcase how easy it is to create something great with Blender and Sketchfab.. Will be doing more of that.
Am also in the habit of making tutorials for random things.. Will start doing more of those with Sketchfab users in mind.
