Members of our community are invited to participate, entries will be submitted via Sketchfab (under the tag #VersaillesDesign).
This is a one of a kind contest, participants are invited to hack a 18th century piece of furniture: the famous Louis XIV commode, created by cabinet maker André-Charles Boulle. This piece of history was 3D scanned and will serve as base model for every participants.
Designers are invited to make the furniture of the era their own by using 3D modeling techniques (with 3D printing in mind).
“This is a different way of showing how the 18th century continues to influence the creators of today and tomorrow”
The most daring adaptations of André-Charles Boulle’s masterpiece may be proposed.
A jury made up of personalities from the world of design and architecture (including Ronan Bouroullec and Jean Nouvel) will choose 5 creations by professional designers and 5 creations by student designers. The 10 models chosen will then be put up for a vote by visitors to the exhibition and by internet users.
Participants are invited to register on Hack King’s Design website here (so you can receive the high resolution model of the commode), and have until February 22nd to submit their entry, through Sketchfab!
